REMA-REMA What You Could Not Visualise

A post-punk Supergroup in reverse

REMA-REMA played only 11 shows around London in 1979, and split up before their one and only album, Wheel in the Roses, was released in 1980, but the members went on to form other influential bands. 44 years later, Canadian director Marco Porsia goes on a mission to find the forces behind the band's groundbreaking sound through exclusive interviews of the players who were imprinted by it and REMA-REMA themselves. The resulting documentary, What You Could Not Visualise, puts REMA-REMA back in their rightful place in the history of post-punk music.

A journey through the uncompromisingly creative life of an influential band, 40 years later.

Between Spring and Autumn 2019, I worked with a documentary film company to develop a brand identity and integrated marketing campaign to mark the release of its first documentary film, a chronicle of NYC band SWANS. The project encompassed BlueRay and DVD packaging, promotional merchandise, and digital and printed assets in multiple languages to support a rigorous global screening tour of +40 festival dates. The success of the launch was the coordination of a team of creative collaborators across North America and Europe that included film, design, art direction, illustration, silkscreen, woodwork, and offset printing to bring the whole project to life.

During 2019, I partnered with a documentary film company to develop a brand identity and integrated marketing campaign to mark the release of its first documentary film, a chronicle of NYC band SWANS. The project encompassed BlueRay / DVD packaging, promotional merchandise, and digital and printed assets in multiple languages to support a rigorous global screening tour of +40 festival dates. The limited edition package was designed in concert with British graphic designer and calligrapher Chris Bigg who has worked with record label 4AD since the early 80's. Our goal was to design a package that reflected the rich sound experimentation of the early post-punk music scene and the raw, exciting songs that REMA-REMA recorded with 4AD in 1980. The richly distressed graphics are a nod to a creative time, and the indelible mark left by 4AD and co-founder Ivo Watts-Russell. The film, REMA-REMA: What You Could Not Visualise has inspired film-goers and garnered numerous film festival awards across Europe and North America.
